Ms. Erlina C. Sanchez is a native of Barangay Sinunuc, this city. She finished a degree in Secretarial Science and Bachelor of Science in Commerce major in Management at the Zamboanga AE Colleges now Universidad de Zamboanga. She also obtained 30 units in Master of Public Administration in the same institution and completed the course on Human Resource Development and Management as a government scholar in Curtin University of Technology in Perth Australia sponsored by the Australian agency for International Development (AusAid).

She started her career in the government service as an Apprentice with a casual appointment in the office of the City Mayor in 1967 while pursuing her college education as a working student. Juggling her time between work and her studies is not an easy task but truly indeed, “Perseverance has its own rewards”, as she continued to climb up the ladder of her professional career through hard work, dedication and determination.

Public service rewarded her efforts and God can’t help but smile on her achievements. Finally, On October 19, 2000, she took over the helm of one of the most important departments in the City Government of Zamboanga. Her appointment as the City Human Resource Management Officer, City Government Department Head II, took effect after the Sangguniang Panlungsod unanimously confirmed her appointment on this day.

One of her official acts after her confirmation was the convening of the Sectoral Assembly that made it possible for the founding of Zamboanga City Government Employees Association (ZCGEA).

Now after serving the City Government of Zamboanga faithfully for 40 years, she has unwaveringly stood by the guiding principles that paved the way for her success. She vowed to “take on the responsibility of continuously instilling career development, discipline and performance efficiency in the City Government through periodic personnel evaluation, monitoring and sound motivational approaches.

She has been cited by numerous award-giving bodies, notably were the following: Civil Service Commission, Region 9’s Best “2007 Human Resource Management Officer”, Universidad de Zamboanga’s, “2005 Most Outstanding Alumni in the Public Service”, Zamboanga City High School’s “2005 Most Outstanding Alumna Awardee”, “2005 Charter Nation Builder Awardee”, “2001 Serviente Publico-Riquezas Humano Awardee” and “2001 Public Servant of the Year for Human Resources Development”, among others.

With her vast contributions, various achievements and richly stuffed experience, she personifies the ideal public servant, a model of inspiration and success, truly an icon of an empowered woman in the public service.
