Historical Background

Evacuees from different places of Mindanao earlier inhabited Kasanyangan. They have migrated into this place without knowing the landowner. This place was muddy and abundant in mangroves.

Years went by and migration rate was increasing and the people who migrated in the area. The name of the two places where people stayed are Kasanyangan andKasalamatan (fro the word salam, meaning peace). And these two places were originally under the Barangay of Sta. Catalina.

Kasanyangan was created into a Barangay by virtue of Sangguniang Panlungsod Order No. 119 which was approved on September 26, 1991 and ratified on February 27, 1994. The area of the present Barangay was taken from Barangays Sta. Catalina and Rio Hondo.

Barangay Fiesta Fiestas are not celebrated since the inhabitants are all Muslims.  Instead, festivities are observed during hariraya Ei'dil Fitri as the culmination of the Holy Month of Ramadan.
