Historical Background

Long time ago, pagans used to live in this beautiful village now known as Maasin. The early inhabitants were known as peace loving Subanens. The Subanens worked in theircaingin. During their leisure hours and because they live by the sea, they engage in salt-making. This gave them a sizable income.

One afternoon, some Spaniards visited the place. The Subanens at that time were very busy making salt. When the Spaniards asked, what are you doing? The Subanens answered “asin”, meaning salt. Since then, the place was called Maasin and to the present, it is till Maasin Barangay.
