Historical Background

In the olden days, the name Quiniput was derived from a dialect word "Aniniput" which means fireflies.

Accordingly, hundreds of fireflies hover over every tree in the place and little girls catch those that descended with their handkerchiefs or cupped palms, for them to see better its twinkling in a dark room.  The fireflies that hover the trees were a scene that the inhabitants found much pleasure and delight to watch during the night.

Quiniput became a barangay upon the enactment of Commonwealth Act No. 39, s. 1937.
