Mayor Beng Climaco has instructed city police director Sr. Supt. Luisito Magnaye to tighten security measures in the far west Barangay Limpapa, particularly in areas surrounding the P60-million Bridge.

Climaco issued the order following observation that the bridge and its surrounding sceneries have been drawing a number of people enjoying the panoramic view of place as seen on social media, the Facebook in particular.

Added to the bridge and greeneries is the privately owned lighthouse or parola that provides visitors a clear and breathtaking view of the sea, the sunset and the beach, making Limpapa the newest tourist destination.

Thus, the chief executive said she has instructed the city police director and the Police Station 10 in Labuan to make Limpapa Bridge and its environs part of their regular security patrol and visibility.

“There is a need to ensure the security of people in the area and those that go there for escapade,” Climaco said at Monday’s press briefing. The bridge was constructed through foreign funds under the joint initiative of Climaco’s office during her first term as congresswoman of the first district and then Zamboanga del Norte Rep. Cesar Jalosjos.

To recall, police authorities recently arrested a suspected member of the Abu Sayyaf Group in the vicinity of Limpapa, more reason that security in the area must be tightened.

Meanwhile, the mayor said she will be convening Feb. 3 the first meeting of the Regional Peace and Order Council (RPOC-9) to which she was appointed chairperson by Pres. Duterte. A comprehensive security plan for the entire Zamboanga Peninsula will be top on the agenda, she said. (Vic Larato)
