Zambo City makes it to DILG’s 2017 SGLG

Zamboanga City made it to the 2017 Seal of Good Local Governance (SGLG) or Pagkilala sa Katapatan at Kahusayan ng Pamahalaang Lokal, a performance-based assessment of local government units nationwide initiated by the Department of Interior and Local Government.

The DILG in its website www.dilg.gov.ph released the list of 2017 SGLG awardees who will be honored during awarding ceremonies slated on November 28 in Manila. Based on the list a total of 448 provinces, cities and municipalities are included in the SGLG passers based on the performance assessment conducted by the DILG assessment teams early this year.

Zamboanga City is the only city and LGU in Region 9 or Zamboanga Peninsula to be awarded.

The criteria focused on four core areas- financial administration, disaster preparedness, social protection, peace and order as well as business friendliness and competitiveness, environmental protection and tourism, culture and arts.

Of the total 448 awardees, 28 are provinces, 61 cities and 359 municipalities.

In 2016, the City Government was conferred with the SGLG with an incentive fund of P3.4M.

The SGLG is given to local government units that raised the bar of excellence in local governance. Through the award, the LGU is entitled to several opportunities to include entitlement to access the Performance Challenge Fund, facilitation of loan approval through the issuance of Good Financial Housekeeping certification and other program windows subject to specific program guidelines.

The performance challenge fund will be used for certain projects based on the criteria set by the DILG. (Sheila Covarrubias)
