Mayor Beng Climaco yesterday declared that the City Government will not tolerate employees and even elected officials who are in any way involved in the sale or use of illegal drugs.

This, as she directed City Legal officer Atty. Jesus Carbon to review the case and recommend not only for the incarceration but dismissal of an employee of the City Engineer’s Office who was apprehended during a buy bust operation in San Roque over the weekend.

The mayor said the city will pursue stern actions against city government employees and even elected officials from the Sangguniang Kabataan down to the Barangay Council who are found to be involved in illegal drugs.

When she assumed office for her second term last June 30, 2016, Climaco ordered the conduct of mandatory drug testing of all City Government employees in which a number of employees were found to be positive in drugs. A number of workers were eventually dismissed from office.

Atty. Carbon during the Monday regular press conference in City Hall said the mayor has dismissed 2 employees whose dismissal orders were affirmed by the Civil Service Commission recently. The two employees have earlier filed motions for reconsideration but the same were denied by the CSC and the latter included in the dismissal order the forfeiture of the employees’ benefits and perpetual disqualification from holding public office.

“This should serve as a warning to all concerned, that any involvement in drugs means dismissal,” Atty. Carbon added. (Sheila Covarrubias)
